In this game you have to be the best of the best all of the time or else your time will simply be up.
As fast as new models come, others go!!
For young or first time models this roller-coaster ride can be pretty tough for them to handle particularly if they have moved away from home to London. Whilst bookers do care and look after their models it is important to note that they have a billion and one other things and people to look after as well not just in the UK but all over the world and sometimes freshman can feel left our or in a panic of not knowing what to do, all perfectly understandable but irrational at the same time.
Therefore I pride myself on not just being a scout but also a 'mentor' or 'go to' that new faces can come to if they want advice on what to do, where to go and who to speak to. As a result it has given me some of the best friends I could ask for, no more so than....
Monsieur Xander Evitts
Luckily for me Xan was already friend with Thomas from earlier and one day whilst talking to Tom I noticed someone had left him a wall past after one of mine. Intrigued by the profile picture I looked further and instantly saw that this guy was great for modelling.
As ever I sent Xan a message on facebook and waited and waited until suddenly my inbox pinged. I opened his message to read he was definitely interested as he'd been thinking about the big time for a while.
Keen to get this guy seen ASAP I suggested I book him in to see my contacts at Select as well as Sarah at NEXT. The very same day Xander, real name Alex...(obviously)...called in to the agencies where Sarah confirmed she wanted to sign him there and then....BUT OH NOOOO!!! Xander had been scouted en-route by a guy called Charlie at Elite (more later).
Unfortunately / fortunately, which ever way you want to look at it Xander was offered two identical contracts, one with Elite and one with NEXT, too global giants in the world of modelling. What is a guy to do.
Later that day I received a rather sheepish call from Xander telling me he had decided to go to Elite. When hearing I was cool about it his tone of voice completely relaxed and I explained that I was not in to the business of being forceful but instead supportive and on the back of that we had a lengthy phone call on what he should do now etc, etc.
Usually when a prospective model does not take up an offer from a scouts agency that is it, ties are cut. However me and Xander hit it off straight away.
The days and weeks that followed there were many lengthy phone calls back and forth trying to support him in his new found career and especially at how he can get over his 'troubles' with his previous agency who he was not impressed with and to some degree has left his fingers slightly 'burnt'.
I have to say that as time has gone on I believe I have found a true friend, possibly even another best friend, one which is honest (brutally), can bitch with the best of them, is hilarious, savvy and importantly who is a professional through and through, which completely shows!
Whilst Xander did not choose to go with one of the agencies I worked with at the time I am still very proud of what he achieved himself.
Due to this new friendship I added to my portfolio of agencies, Elite London, another amazing global giant whose men's board is headed up by the 'honest to the bone' yet charming and hilarious Charlie!
Charlie has worked super hard for Xander like he does all of his lads and as a result of which Xan has sealed many high profile jobs from castings including Superdry, net-a-porter, and signed EXCLUSIVELY for Versace for Mens Fashion Week in Milan!!!!!!!!! (Check out video below)
